ALPS Anterior Posterior Tapered Prosthetic Liner

The ALPS Anterior Posterior Tapered Liner is specifically designed for below-knee (transtibial) prosthetic users.

Unlike a uniformly thick liner, the AP Tapered Liner gradually transitions from 6mm anterior thickness to 3mm posterior thickness.

The thicker anterior portion provides additional cushioning over bony areas, while the thinner posterior section helps reduce bunching behind the knee and allows greater freedom of movement.

The liner combines ALPS High Density Gel with black fabric designed with highly reduced vertical stretch to help control soft tissue movement and reduce pistoning.

Why 6mm Anterior and 3mm Posterior?

The front and back of a below-knee residual limb have different cushioning and movement needs.

The AP Tapered Liner provides 6mm of material along the anterior side, where additional protection may be beneficial over bony prominences.

The 3mm posterior thickness reduces bulk behind the knee, helping provide greater freedom of movement and reducing bunching in the popliteal area.

High Density (HD) Gel

The AP Tapered Liner uses ALPS High Density Gel.

HD Gel has a relatively firm texture designed to combine cushioning with control and stability. It can be particularly useful for active prosthetic users and for helping control soft tissue movement inside the liner.

Locking or Cushion?

Locking

Choose Locking if your prosthesis uses a compatible distal locking suspension system.

The locking AP Tapered Liner includes a reinforced distal matrix designed to help reduce distal pistoning and contain redundant tissue.

Cushion

Choose Cushion if your prosthetic suspension system does not require a distal locking attachment.

If you aren’t certain which type your prosthesis requires, check with your prosthetist before ordering.

Don’t Guess Your Liner Size

Correct sizing is extremely important.

Measure the circumference of your residual limb 6 cm (approximately 2⅜ inches) above the distal end.

Please note: Size 35 is a newly available AP Tapered Liner size. The sizing above reflects the current sizing confirmed directly with our ALPS supplier.

Important Fit Information

Choosing the correct liner size is extremely important. Please carefully review the sizing instructions before ordering.

Changing to the AP Tapered Liner from another liner design may affect the fit of your existing prosthetic socket because of its specialized 6mm anterior / 3mm posterior profile.

Even if your existing liner has a similar size designation, it does not necessarily mean the liners will fit identically inside your socket.

If you are unsure whether the ALPS AP Tapered Liner is appropriate for your current prosthesis, please discuss the change with your prosthetist before ordering.
